The BMW X3 2.5i for 2005: Improving on 2004

BMW X3

A lot has been said about the BMW X3 for 2005. As BMW's entry in the sport utility market the X3 (and in this case specically the 2.5i version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 4-door X3 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect truck to help BMW as a brand in general.

Performance

The X3 2.5i is equipped with a BMW 2.5 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The X3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2005 X3 is a Siemens MS design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 17.70 gallons.

X3 2.5i Statistics

The X3 is 179.70 inches long, 73.00 inches wide, and 65.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 110.10 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

There is a 50,000* mile, 60* month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 50,000*/36* miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

The listed retail price in 2005 (MSRP) was $30,300, with an invoice cost of $27,755. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.

Fuel Efficiency

The X3 2.5i received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and 23 - 24 when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green truck, this was subpar.

In 2004 and 2005 the X3 2.5i was availble in the exterior colors of Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Blue Water Metallic, Flamenco Red Metallic, Highland Green Metallic, Jet Black, Mystic Blue Metallic, Silver Gray Metallic, and Titanium Silver Metallic.

Conclusion

The 2005 model year was unsuccessful for the BMW X3. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the 2.5i version) meant that buyers had several options to choose from..
