Several things can be said about the BMW X3 series: including the polarizing reactions most buyers have towards their truck. The six-cylinder engine is at the heart of the strong emotions, it is powerful for its class and delivers a large amount of torque.

2006 BMW X3 3.0i Specs

Standard equipment in the X3 for 2005 and 2006 includes the 3.0 liter engine by BMW, weighing in at 6 cylinders and twenty four valves. A 6-speed Standard Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. The has proven to be a popular configuration for the X3.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The X3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2006 X3 is a Siemens MS 45 design, using gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 17.70 gallons.

The listed retail price in 2006 (MSRP) was $36,800, with a dealer invoice cost of $33,670. This price is in line with the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.

MPG Ratings

The X3 3.0i received a miles-per-gallon rating of 16 - 17 in-city driving and 23 - 25 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid truck, this was within normal parameters.

In 2005 and 2006 the X3 3.0i was availble in the exterior colors of Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Blue Water Metallic, Flamenco Red Metallic, Highland Green Metallic, Jet Black, Mystic Blue Metallic, Silver Gray Metallic, and Titanium Silver Metallic. Additional options were available as special orders from the factory.

The 2005 model began the promise of the BMW X3. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the X3 3.0i will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
