The BMW X5 4.8is for 2006: Improving on 2005

The BMW X5 is a 4-door truck available at your BMW dealer. The X5 came in three configurations: 3.0i, 4.4i, and 4.8is. The 4.8is configuration is powered by the 4.8-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 21 highway miles and 15 - 16 city. The X5 competes in the Sport Utility market segment, in direct competition with Honda.

Standard equipment in the X5 for 2005 and 2006 includes the 4.8 liter engine by BMW, weighing in at 8 cylinders and thirty two valves. A 6-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Sport Utility arena.

The standard warranty period for the X5 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.
Fuel Efficiency
The 2006 X5 gets 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 15 - 16 in the city. This is subpar for a sport utility truck.

There are several reasons why the BMW X5 4.8is sold well in 2006. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a BMW, specifically a X5.

Good article. At first I felt like I needed to refute your review of the BMW X5, but after further reflection I can see your point of view. Perhaps my personal X5 4.8is is an abberation. What is everyone else’s experiences?
