The BMW X5 3.0i for 2004: Improving on 2003

BMW X5

BMW has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the BMW X5 of 2004. There are three trim levels to the X5, including 4.8is, 3.0i, and 4.4i. The 3.0i version is one of the more popular options. Like in 2003 the popular 3.0 liter has made this a popular choice for sport utility buyers around the world.

Performance

The restyled X5 3.0i is equipped with a BMW 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 24 valves. The engine is paired with a ZF 6-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The X5 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and air springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2004 X5 is a traditional Siemens MS 43, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 24.30 gallons.

X5 3.0i Statistics

The X5 is 183.70 inches long, 73.70 inches wide, and 69.30 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 111.00 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the X5 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $40,800 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $37,290. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2004 X5 gets 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 15 - 16 in the city. This is average for a sport utility truck.

In 2003 and 2004 the X5 3.0i was availble in the exterior colors of Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Highland Green Metallic, Jet Black, Kalahari Beige, Olivin Green Metallic, Oxford Green Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Toledo Blue. Additional options were made available by the factory.

In Summary

The 2003 model began the promise of the BMW X5. The 2004 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the X5 3.0i will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
