The BMW X5 4.4i for 2006

BMW X5

Several things can be said about the BMW X5 series: including the polarizing reactions most buyers have towards their truck. The eight-cylinder engine is at the heart of the strong emotions, it is powerful for its class and delivers a large amount of torque.

BMW X5 Engine Specs

The restyled X5 4.4i is equipped with a 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2005 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The X5 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and air in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2006 X5 is a traditional Bosch ME-9.2, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 24.30 gallons.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the X5 4.4i are 73.70 inches wide by 183.70 inches long. It sits 69.30 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 111.00 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the X5 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The listed retail price in 2006 (MSRP) was $42,500, with a dealer invoice cost of $38,855. This price is on target the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.

MPG Ratings

The 2006 X5 gets 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 15 - 16 in the city. This is subpar for a sport utility truck.

The vehicle is available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Highland Green Metallic, Jet Black, Kalahari Beige Metallic, Olivin Green Metallic, Sterling Gray Metallic, Stratus Gray Metallic, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Toledo Blue Metallic.

We Think...

The 2005 model began the promise of the BMW X5. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the X5 4.4i will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
